On February 27th, members of Scraps and Patches of Poland and Classic Quilters of L/A met at the Ricker Library in Poland for a potholder quilting class with Wendy Caton Reed.
Wendy was a very patient instructor and shared many tips on how to best make this technique work with various sizes of blocks and fabrics.
Starting with 3 1/2" squares sewn into four-patches, we layered with batting and backing and machine quilted. Trimmed to 6 1/2", we then bound them with 1 1/4" single width binding strips and used the whip/ladder stitch to sew together.
Wendy recommended the use of a 50 wt. cotton thread, such as Aurifil, single thread with 1/8-1/4" stitches. She also using Tulip Applique Big Eye #10 needles, which are available at Quiltessentials and Busy Thimble quilt shops.
Thanks for the wonderful time!
