 Aluminum foil is a wonderful sharpening tool. Take a sheet and fold in into six layers. Using a dull rotary cutter blade, slice into it several times until sharpened. It might take many cuts and of course, doesn't work on nicked blades.

Organize your marking pens, pencils and stilettos by using plastic toothbrush holders. You can find them three to a package at your local dollar store.

Take the extra time to machine baste your quilt before sewing on the binding by using your longest basting stitch 1/8" from the edge on your quilt.

This will keep your binding from puckering and when you sew on your binding with a 1/4" seam allowance, you will never see it. If you have a walking foot, use it!

I'd like to call this tip "Bobbin 9-1-1"

There is nothing worse that chain piecing and then finding out your bobbin thread ran out yards ago. Try this tip and see how it works for you!

Start a new bobbin, let it run a couple of revolutions and stop. Pull up the bobbin from the winder and mark it with a line using a washable marker.


Continue filling the bobbin. When you sew and get to that marked point, it will remind you that you only have a few inches before running out of thread.

Quilting Tip of the Week 3.3.16

If you use masking tape or blue painter's tape for holding down your backing fabric when making your quilting sandwich or marking your quilt, store your rolls in a Ziploc plastic bag.

This will increase the life of your tape as it will dry out afterr time.
