Area 3 Meeting 10.12.16-Speaker Susan Carlson
Thank you to Doreen Maxwell for sharing these photos with us!
Susan Carlson gave us a very interesting lecture on her work and the story behind each piece. The pictures cannot do her stunning craftsmanship justice.
Here are photos of our own talented Area 3 members at show and tell:

Urgent Request For Help From Tennessee
Pam Nourse, our Patchwork Press editor wanted to share this request with us:
This message (printed below) just popped up on a Facebook quilting page
that I follow. I thought I'd pass it along, and ask if the area reps
could perhaps forward it to their chapters & floaters as well. I
know we're all crazy-busy already with the holidays, but if a lot of
people could make (or purchase) just one or two stockings, it would go a long way toward
making the holidays a bit more cheery for kids who have just lost
everything. I know quilters are some of the most giving people in the
world, so I hope maybe some of us can help.
I also did a quick online search, and found a pattern for a stocking which looks VERY easy here: http://howtosew.com/blog/sewing-projects/easy-christmas-stocking
Here's the text of the Facebook post:
"Hey ya all. I am sure
that you have heard about the Wildfires here in Gatlinburg and surrounding
cities, Pigeon Forge being one of them.
There are loads of kids here who
will have no Christmas unless we help.
I would like to ask you to make a Christmas
Stocking and if you can afford it, to put a few little goodies in it and send
it to me.
The organizations here have their hands full and I
will in conjunction with the coordinators here, distribute these to kids mainly
in the motels and temporary housing around here. If the stockings are empty,
there is one group who will fill them and distribute them as well. We are not
fussy, just need to get these kids something for Christmas.
Any amount you can afford to make and send would be
a blessing to these kids.
The schools are asking for school supplies, hand sanitizer , crayons, markers, ink pens, pocket tissues, erasers, chap stick, pencil boxes, etc. But any thing that would suit a kindergarten on up to 8th grade. Please keep the gifts in the same age group should you be able to stuff the stocking and include a note if the items are for a certain age or gender.
Thanks and I hope this is OK to post here.
Be sure to enter a note with your name and address
or your Facebook page so that we can send you a thank you."

2016 Native American Quilt Collection
We
received exactly 100 quilts for the reservation this year from around
the state of Maine. During the summer and fall we traveled the state to
make pickups at various quilt shops. Wolf spoke at several churches
about his Ministry and collected items for babies and new mommies as
well as money for winter fuel. We collected many blankets, afghans,
knitted hats and mittens, new baby items, new Mommy items and $100 cash
for fuel assistance.
Wolf
and I delivered the quilts, blankets, and other items to the Maliseet
reservation in Houlton, Maine on Monday Oct 24th. We had so much stuff
that we filled our trailer as well as the back of our pickup. I have
included 6 pictures from the trip. We stopped at Crazy Moose quilt shop
in Greenville and picked up more quilts and knitted items. There's a
picture of Marilyn, the owner, and the snow we encountered.
There's
pictures of Wolf with the Maliseet ladies and of them helping us unload
the trailer. The money for fuel assistance was mailed to then directly
from the churches who donated it so we would not have to handle the it
ourselves.
By request from the Micmac's we also went back to Presque
Isle and dropped off used clothing, blankets, and some quilts for them.
Everyone expressed how grateful they were to receive what we brought and
they all promised to take pictures of the people receiving the quilts.
During
the winter months we will be choosing our next location. In April,
just in time for the Spring shop hop we will begin our collection for
2017. When the pictures start rolling in I will send them to you for
posting.
Big thank you to everyone who made this year a success.
