Area 3 Meeting May 5th-Hosted by Pine Needles of Norway/So. Paris

Pine Needles Quilters of Norway/So. Paris will be hosting an Area 3 meeting on Tuesday, May 5th at 9:00 am. to be held at the Norway Second Congregational Church, 218 Main St., Norway (on the corner of Main and Paris streets).
We will be serving a light breakfast followed by the meeting. The theme for this event is “Spring is Sprung” and we will be accepting a 12 1/2” pieced block of any flower design (quilters choice) on an unbleached muslin background for the drawing.

This block can be any style, pieced, applique, paper pieced, as long as it is a flower. The speaker will be Kim Hamlin from Fiber & Vine in Norway.

There will be a gift for everyone attending, a sale table, door prizes and time for show and tell.
Mark your calendars now!

October 15th Area 3 Meeting

A big thank you again to members of Classic Quilters of Lewiston-Auburn and Scraps and Patches of Poland for co-hosting another successful Area 3 meeting. The ride to Poland on a warm fall day with fall leaves bursting with color was spectacular!

A total of 56 were in attendance with nine chapters represented. We also had a guest, new PTQG Area 2 Representative, Kathy Gaunt.

Our guest speaker was Betsy Dorr of Quiltessentials. Betsy brought in lots of new quilting gadgets that we certainly cannot live without. I, a long time fan of the Attic Window pattern (but not of a Y-seam) found a new template to make various sizes of the AW pattern simple enough for a beginner. This block is perfect for I Spy or fussy cut quilts.

The raffle block was an appliqued maple leaf and 38 were made and split between two winners, Doreen Hoyt and Susan Lamie. Can't wait to see those fall-colored leafs made into a quilt!

For a bit of fun, instead of my normal gift drawing, Halloween goodies bags were distributed with one bag having a "your a winner!" message for a prize of a $10 Quiltessentials gift certificate. The lucky winner was Marjorie Lydecker. I'm sure she will find something useful to spend it on.

Several matters of PTQG business were brought up and discussed, including the possibility of changing the show days.

Unfortunately, my photos of the day are limited (camera and lighting issues), so if you took pictures, please forward them to be in .JPEG format and I will be happy to post them here.

Village Scrappers Host Area 3 Meeting in April

The Village Scrappers will be hosting an Area 3 meeting on April 22nd at the Wayside Baptist Church, 1726 Federal Rd. (Rt. 4) in Livermore. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. and our featured speaker will be Bonnie Dwyer. She will present “100 years of American Quilts”.

This is a trunk show that includes examples of quilts from mid-19th through mid-20th Century. Bonnie will bring a minimum of 25 quilts from her own collection that are representative of American quilting trends spanning 100 years. Participants are urged to bring their vintage quilts for discussion.

The block for the meeting is a house block with an unfinished size of 12 ½” x 12 ½”. The only stipulation is that the sky needs to be a daytime shade of blue. You can make a simple house or you can add a tree or whatever. Pieced, paper pieced or appliqued—your choice!

Here is a house block pattern if you need one:

Please bring your lunch and any show and tell. The Village Scrappers will provide beverages and desserts.

Area 3 Meeting and Updates

Many thanks to the members of Classic Quilters of Lewiston/Auburn and Scraps and Patches of Poland for one fantastic Area 3 meeting!

Today we shared lots of yummy desserts, beautiful show and tell items, a very interesting speaker on the Underground Railroad and the generosity of those who brought quilts, blankets and sewing notions for Laura. It's so heartwarming to see everyone pull together to replace those blankets and quilts lost in the tragic house fire. Thank you to all of you who stepped forward to help.

Winner of the 16 Civil War blocks was Beth Maitland and the winner of the mug rug set was Fran Martin.

While I delivered 112 quilts and blankets to Laura and Wolf's church, many more have been collected by her church members and other quilters. As of last Sunday, the count was 127 quilts and 168 blankets for a total of 295! In addition, many contributed baby clothing, hats and other winter items.

Today's collection brought in more quilts and sewing notions and we still have more quilts/blankets to be picked up at the quilt drop-off points this week. I would venture a rough guesstimate will be around 330-350 quilts and blankets total! Can you picture those lucky children all wrapped up in the love of strangers? Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Here are photos from the Area 3 meeting to enjoy. Unfortunately, I was in the back of the room and the lighting wasn't the best for my type of camera. Hopefully you can get the jest.

Just some of the many trunkfuls of items for Laura

We had 57 in attendance!

Lucky we keep the calories at the door...

Our speaker was Connie
