The following is a Patchwork Press Report submitted by Phyliss Jamison for the July issue that was unfortunately missed by the editor.
"We’re
growing! Grammy’s Choice Quilters has recently welcomed three new members. The new members bring experience in design,
sewing, and some quilting. This generates energy and creativity for all of us.
We’re
learning! Mary Learned and Darlene Gauthier, retired quilting teachers, have
given demonstrations to the group to benefit the new members and to refresh the
skills of others. Mary reviewed paper piecing; Darlene reviewed the “no waste”
flying geese pattern.
We’re
skill building with classes being led by Darlene in the use of color, using the
book The Quilter’s Color Club by Christine E. Barnes. For a more practical application, we are
using actual fabrics in our color studies.
Other demonstrations and classes will be given in the coming months.
Our two
Comfort Quilts are finished and will be given out as needed. The quilts are beautifully machine quilted by
one of our new members who owns a long-arm quilting machine. Her work is lovely and greatly appreciated!
Our
long-time meeting place, owned by the town, is being sold. Consequently, we are
now meeting at the Canton Fire Dept. on Route 108. It’s smaller, but comfortable.
As
usual, we closed another year of quilting by a trip to the Calico Basket Quilt
Shop in Windham and Cotton Weeds in Freeport.
Spent money and had a great day!
We’re
looking forward to our coming meetings with new members and new projects. Isn’t
quilting great?!"
