Classic Quilters Holds "After The Holidays" Dinner

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays over, Classic Quilters held their annual dinner meeting on Tuesday, January 21st at Marco's restaurant in Lewiston.

It was so nice to spend time visiting and catching up with old friends. Working evenings, it's been difficult to attend meetings, so it was especially nice for me. Chatting about our latest quilting projects, weather (we always have "weather" on our dinner meeting and luckily it held off until after we got home), family (and dogs!).

I brought a little door prize--a quilting license plate cover--and the raffle winner was Carole Pettinelli.

Scraps and Patches of Poland have asked Classic Quilters to join them again to co-host an Area 3 meeting this fall and Classic Quilters agreed. At this time, all is know is that it will be held in October. Stand by for more information!

Hokey Pokey Cake

(Modified from a Taste of Home recipe)

Makes 15 servings

1 pkg. (18 ¼ oz.) chocolate or any flavor of cake mix

1 jar (17 oz.) caramel or any flavor ice cream topping (find this in the ice cream section)

1 carton (12 oz.) Cool Whip, any flavor, thawed (in refrigerator)

3 Heath candy bars (1.4 oz. each) or your favorite type of candy bars, chopped

Prepare and bake care according to package directions, using a greased 13” x 9” baking pan. Cool on a wire rack.

Using the end of a wooden spoon, poke holes in the cake, every 1” or so. Pour ¾ cups of ice cream topping over the holes. It works best to slightly warm the ice cream topping in the microwave (top removed) for about 15 seconds or until easy to pour over the cake. Spoon any remaining ice cream topping over the cake.

Top with thawed Cool Whip topping. Sprinkle with candy topping. Refrigerate for at least two hours before serving.

You can have fun with this cake by changing up the flavor of cake mixes, flavored Cool Whip and ice cream toppings. You can also use an array of candy toppings—use your imagination!

A Few Words From Scraps and Patches...

Scraps and Patches had our annual Christmas Party at Pat Greeley's home in December (pre-snow and ice!).  We all had a great time with swaps and a pot luck luncheon.

At the Christmas party we decided to do a Mystery Quilt starting in January.  One of our newest members, Pat Wakefield, is leading the group.  We received our first directions today and it looks like FUN!  We get the next set of directions in 2 weeks.  Since it is all scraps, I am hoping that all the money I am saving by using my scraps up will go back into the economy in the form of yardage!

I hope that everyone is enjoying the sunshine we are getting today and that the time we spend avoiding the ice and snow outdoors can be spent quilting!

One of our members, Janney Lupton, who was also in Classic Quilters, is now gracing the Fort Worth, Texas area of the country.  I only hope they know what a treasure they have received!  She is certainly missed up here.

Don't hesitate to come visit us at the Ricker Library in Poland.  We meet Wednesday's at 9 am.

Zucchini Crescent Pie Recipe

System feel a little slow after all the holiday goodies? This will put you on the right path!

Yield: 6 to 8 servings

3 tablespoons margarine or butter
4 cups thinly sliced zucchini
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley or 2 tablespoons dried
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
2 eggs, beaten
8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded (2 cups)
1 can (8 ounces) crescent dinner rolls
2 teaspoons prepared mustard

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. In a large skillet, melt the margarine over medium heat. Add the zucchini and onion and saute until the onion is golden, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat. Stir in the parsley, salt, pepper, garlic powder, basil, and oregano. Combine the eggs and mozzarella and stir into the zucchini mixture.

Place the crescent rolls in an ungreased 10-inch pie plate. Press over the bottom and up the sides to form a crust. Spread the crust with the mustard. Pour the vegetable mixture into the crust. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until the center is set. If the crust begins to brown before the center is set, cover with aluminum foil. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
