In 2017, we collected a total of 350 quilt blocks for Project Linus and Quilts of Valor Foundation.
This year, I decided to gear the challenge only for QOFV. Through your generosity and compassion for those who served to protect our freedom, a grand total of (are you sitting down?) of 860 quilt blocks were submitted by our PTQG members!
Donna Brookings of QOVF, Gorham, was overjoyed with this outpouring of support and has already picked up the blocks and is busy sorting them into piles to be given to fellow QOVF members to be sewn into quilts. (See pictures below).
It is factored that approximately 36 quilts can be made from the blocks collected (I would also like to thank Cumston Quilters for donating a finished quilt to this event). Donna has promised to share more pictures of the finished quilts as they are completed and they will be posted on the Area 3 blog and also in Patchwork Press. Below is a photo of the above mentioned quilt presented to a deserving veteran Gerald Raymond, Army.
Since we had so many blocks sent in, I decided to add a second prize of $25.00 for the general drawing. So, without further ado, the winner of the general drawing for $75.00 prize is Cobblestone Quilters. The second prize of $25.00 is Acadian Quilters. The most quilt blocks sent in by a chapter or individual for the $50.00 prize is Pine Point Quilters (304 blocks). The winner of my favorite quilt block for the $15.00 prize is Louise Wickenheiser of Madawaska.
Please remember that this money came out of my own pocket and not from PTQG or Area 3 funds.
Thank you again for your participation in this worthwhile endeavor.
UPDATE: Cobblestone Quilters discussed their $75.00 winnings and returned the check to me for the funds to be sent to the QOVF for purchase of backing/batting for completing quilts. Thank you, ladies!
