Lisbon
Krazy Kwilters of Lisbon regretfully informs our quilting friends that one
of our cherished members, Bertha Bonenfant, passed away in January. We were fortunate enough to help her
celebrate her 98th
birthday this past December.
Bertha loved quilting and met not
only with our Lisbon group on Mondays, but also sewed with Auburn quilters on
Wednesdays. In addition to her quilting, she enjoyed knitting. Her family
members received many wall hangings, and could always look forward to the hand
towels and dishcloths she made for them every year.
Until recently, Bertha often drove on her own
to Massachusetts to visit her nieces, nephews and her beloved goddaughter. With
a twinkle in her eyes, Bertha enjoyed saying that she “kept at least to the
speed limit in order to keep up with the Massachusetts drivers”! She loved
going out to restaurants with her quilting groups and neighbor friends.
Bertha took pride in making and sharing her
chicken salad and often rewarded her helpful neighbors with this treat, along
with a cool glass of lemonade. Her swing in the backyard near the brook was a
favorite spot in the summer; perfect to be cool and peaceful for her hand
sewing or reading a book. She was independent and feisty and we admired her
spirit for living. She is missed already.
