Country Square Quilters Share Chapter Activities

It seems that staying warm has been a major task this winter with temperatures in the "deep freeze" category for weeks! But Country Square Quilters have been and are busy with projects and demonstration no matter what the thermometer registers.

The first project in September, presented by Faye Shaw, was a unique apron pattern, easy to make using a square piece of fabric.

The second project was a charming Christmas tree wall hanging, presented by Collette Fortin. Collette's folding method and stitching, gave the tree a 3-dimensional effect.

In October, Carol Boynton presented the popular "mug rug" but with a twist. Each member brought twenty 3 1/2 inch squares (ten light and ten dark colored squares) which were laid out on a table. Members chose 4 light and 3 dark squares from the selection to make their own "mug rug".

Apples was another theme in October. Members brought apple themed work for "show & tell" and apple desserts for post "show & tell". Carol Gilbert demonstrated/instructed the group in an apple applique using freezer paper and turning fabric edges technique.

November's meetings had Lisa Small demonstrate "raw edge applique" and how to make any size block using scraps and the "criss cross" design.

The annual holiday party took place Dec. 10, featuring good food, beautiful show and tell items, a gift certificate to Pins & Needles and a fun Strip game.

For the game members each brought 4 strips of fabric 2 1/2 WOF. In groups of 5 -6 and using a dice, members either passed strips to the left or right player or in the center depending on the number rolled. The player left with fabric won all the strips. Lots of fun!

Keep warm and have a healthy New Year!
