Grammy's Choice Keeps on Quilting!

Due to adverse traveling conditions, Grammy’s Choice of Canton had suspended their meetings until March, but they continue to share their love of quilting in an innovative way. This is how it works.

One of the members discovers a new technique. She phones, email or comes to a nearby member’s home to share. The next member does the same until all members are notified. 

To quote Grammy’s Choice chapter contact, Phyliss, “It may be snowing and blowing, but we’re sewing and showing!”

Collection of Quilts for Native Americans in Maine

Once again, Pine Needles of Norway/So. Paris will be working with the Gathering of Eagles Ministry to collect much needed quilts, blankets, knitted baby items and new or "gently" use items of clothing. Cash donations to be used towards oil bills will also be welcomed.

The items will be delivered in the fall, so watch this post for an update on the deadline to drop off items.

 All items collected will stay right here in Maine and going to the Passamaquoddy Indian Reservation in Perry. They are in great need and would appreciate your support!

Chickadee Quilters to host "Project Linus Blanket Day"

Chickadee Quilters of Bridgton will be holding a “Project Linus Blanket Day” on Saturday, February 28^th from 10-3 at Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot St. in Bridgton.

They will be working on quilts and collecting any that are done and ready to donate. Melodie Provost, the York/Cumberland County Project Linus representative will be on hand, and she usually brings kits and fabrics to use. Snacks and coffee will be offered, but you might want to bring along your own lunch.

If you would like to help, they do need batting and backing material. If anyone is interested in coming, please contact Beth Brown at 332-5158 for more details and to reserve a work space.

Thank You For PTQG meeting

A big thank you to all chapters who donated items for the door prizes for the upcoming meeting on Saturday, January 31st.

I wrapped each item in fabric with safety pins and we have a total of 42 gifts!

Area 3 Meeting May 5th

Pine Needles Quilters of Norway/So. Paris will be hosting an Area 3 meeting on Tuesday, May 5th at 9:00 am. to be held at the Norway Second Congregational Church, 218 Main St., Norway (on the corner of Main and Paris streets).

 

We will be serving a light breakfast followed by the meeting. The theme for this event is “Spring is Sprung” and we will be accepting a 12 1/2” pieced block of any flower design (quilters choice) on an unbleached muslin background for the drawing. This block can be any style, pieced, applique, paper pieced, as long as it is a flower. The speaker will be Kim Hamlin from Fiber & Vine in Norway.

 

There will be a gift for everyone attending, a sale table, door prizes and time for show and tell.

Delivery to Passamaquoddy Reservation

Wolf and Laura Freeman forwarded me these pictures and an update of their latest collection of quilts, blankets and clothing:

 

On Monday 11/17, Wolf and I drove to Pleasant Point in Perry, ME to deliver everything we collected to the Passamaquoddy reservation.

 

We received many requests to support our local Native Americans, so we located a local reservation in need here in Maine. They were very appreciative and overwhelmed with what we had collected. They told us that they recently had three tribal homes burn. Everyone is okay, but one of the homes had a family with an expecting mother. Fortunately we had collected many infant clothes. The tribe is in much need of coats for the winter and monetary donations to pay for heating oil. Wolf and I are discussing how we want to do a fundraiser to collect money to send them.

 

I have attached a few pictures. We were promised many more pictures when the quilts and other items are distributed.
