Leo's Sewing Machine Repairs/Scissors Sharpening

I recently had my yearly Bernina cleaning by Leo and wanted to share with you my total satisfaction. His prompt and courteous service is unmatched.

Not only does he do a stellar job with cleanings and repairs, Leo also sharpens both regular blade and pinking shears. He charges $.50 per inch times the total length of the scissors (i.e. 8" shears x $.50=$4.00).

We all have those special scissors, whether passed down from a mother or grandmother, or just that expensive pair you yourself invested in. Do yourself a favor and pull them out of your drawer, have Leo give them a sharp edge and use them!

If you are out of the area, why not have your quilting group collect scissors marked as shown below and make arrangements with Leo to meet. His contact information is on the right sidebar of the blog. Better yet, just give them to him when you set up your time for annual cleaning!

Quilting Tip of the Week 6.5.14

Ever been in the process of making a quilt project or making a backing for a quilt and run out of fabric? Instead of searching through piles of fabric for the perfect piece, try this!

While initially this method takes a bit of your time, but has been such a lifesaver for me.

I mark a piece of index card with the amount of yardage, date and where I purchased it and staple it on the folded end of the selvage. This gives me a quick reference as to if the piece actually has enough yardage for my needs before I even remove it from my shelf.

It's also helpful if you make out an index card with a small sample of the fabric glued to the card with all the fabric particulars. Need to find another color to match? Take the index card with you when you shop.

With the pattern # and manufacturer name, you can search the Internet and find more of the same fabric if you happen to need more.

Chickadee Quilt Show Needs Quilts

The Chickadee Quilt Show is Saturday, July 12th and Sunday, June 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Bridgton.

We would love to have more quilts for our show.  Applications must be turned in by June 15 and the quilts dropped off on Thursday, July 10th.

For an application or questions,  call Chris Lowell at 207-647-5197.

Here is a Hidden Wells quilt I made and showed last year. It was donated to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Country Square Quilters Celebrate a Milestone

The Country Square Quilters celebrated their 25th anniversary this month with a nice brunch and a special cake decorated with our logo.

There were four charter members: Joyce Orff, Juanita Crafts, Eleanor Currier and the late Barbara Allen. Joyce gave a brief history of the chapter origin and Juanita and Eleanor supplied a few antidotes.
