Quilting Tip of the Week 7.2.15

Like many of you, I like to make scrap quilts. This is a perfect opportunity to use up all those leftover bobbin thread for both top and bottom seams.

When working with only lighter colors, I tend to use Connecting Threads Silver color thread. It's a bit lighter than gray (or grey!) and blends in most light and medium tone fabrics.

To save time, I like to pre-wind several bobbins of the same color to have them ready to use as they run out. When I have two empty bobbins, I stop and clean and oil my machine and change the needle, if necessary. By taking a few minutes (and a break from sewing) to attend to my machine, I can keep it in tip-top shape!

Classic Quilters Road Trip June 27th

Several Classic Quilters enjoyed a road trip to Calico Basket Quilt Shop and a leisurely lunch at Gilbert's Chowder House, both in Windham.

It's amazing when you think you really don't "need" any more fabric--yea, like that happens. I say if we only bought fabric when we needed it all the quilt shops would be out of business!

Of course, being nice quilters, we couldn't be rude and not buy anything. No, that wouldn't be proper. So we did come away with a little something. My big thrill was several new 30's repro fabrics to add to my collection. And who couldn't resist these patriotic fat quarters--aren't they adorable?

Our lunch at Gilbert's was delicious--the hand-cut sweet potato fries and onion rings were a big hit. The waitress must have known that we liked to chat and she didn't rush us at all. Along with a beautiful Maine day, it was a nice way to welcome Spring!
