Quilts for Kids--Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

This year Gathering of Eagles Ministry will be collecting again for Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. We will collect any size quilt and also knitted items like afghans, mittens, and baby clothes, etc.

We have a new contact person at Pine Ridge who promises this year to provide more  pictures of people receiving their items. We will send our collected quilts in the fall to give everyone time to get theirs completed and we will be contacting quilt shops around Maine to establish drop off places.

Please check back on the blog for any updated information.

Quilting Tip of the Week 4.13.14

Frustrated by running out of bobbin thread right in the middle of a special quilting project or while decorative stitching?

Try making sets of thread bobbins to use for top and bottom threads. Since they will run out at the same time, just watch the thread level on the top and you will never run short again!

Village Scrappers Area 3 Meeting 4.22.14

Thanks to the members of Village Scrappers for another successful Area 3 meeting held in Livermore with 62 ladies in attendance.

The winner of the 21 house blocks was Joanne Mitchell Trask.

The guest lecture speaker was Bonnie Dwyer on "100 Years of American Quilts." Many members brought in quilts for Bonnie to review and she also shared tips on the best way to clean antique and new quilts.

Delicious desserts, baked goods and beverages were enjoyed by all.

Quilting Tip of the Week 4.17.14

Starting today, I will be posting a quilting/sewing tip of the week. Here's mine!

Save your plastic closures from your bakery bags and with a Sharpie mark your tags with row numbers. These are great to place on the top block and pin on using the center slot. It's amazing how quickly you can collect enough for a large quilt!

Do you have a tip to share? Send it along, perferably with a photo in .JPEG format.

Maine Quilts Presents

Maine Vacationland, the Way Life Should Be Benefit Auction

All Proceeds to Benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation

July 25, 2014, 7:30 p.m. Augusta Civic Center

The Pine Tree Quilters Guild appreciates your business as an important part of the local community.

Pine Tree Quilters Guild, Inc. (PTQG) is Maine's non-profit state quilting guild with over 2,200 members in 73 chapters. PTQG brings together Maine quilt enthusiasts in fellowship and sharing. Toward that end, each July we present a quilt show and conference – Maine Quilts.

Each year at Maine Quilts, we devote a portion of our effort to fundraising for a deserving non-profit in the State of Maine. At this year’s show, we will showcase member and community donations in a live auction on Friday evening, July 25, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Maine Cancer Foundation. The celebration will be open to the public and advertised throughout the state.

Maine Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Maine people by funding cancer research, education and patient support programs. One hundred percent of the funds raised remain in Maine. Recently over $1 million was awarded to cancer researchers throughout our state, with grants totaling $247,500 provided to three Jackson Laboratory researchers studying leukemia, lymphoma and lung and brain cancers. The Foundation was pleased to announce that funding was also released for a two-year, state-wide “virtual clinical trial,” seeking to find effective drug treatments for triple-negative breast cancer patients.

While research makes up the core of their grant funding program, each year the Foundation provides financial support to dozens of patient and education programs state-wide. Maine Cancer Foundation is unique in its top-to-bottom approach to fighting cancer.

Many of our members have donated quilts and other items to help us raise funds for this worthy organization. In addition, we seek additional items supporting the Maine Vacationland theme. We will list your business name with address, phone number and web site in our show program which is given to the over 5,000 show attendees and in the auction program. In addition, We will advertise your donation on the Maine Quilts 2014 web site, http://www.mainequilts.org , the primary source for information on Maine’s largest quilt show, and on several auction-related web sites, as well many and various pre-event publicity communications.

We look forward to featuring your Maine business alongside others dedicated to fighting cancer in our State, by contributing to this fundraising event. A representative of Maine Quilts will contact you shortly to see how you would like to be included in this effort, or you may contact Quilting Auctioneer Ruth Lind by phone at 751-1430, or email moxielady@me.com .

Thank you for your support!
